ART CLASS DAY 13: ADVANCED WIRE WRAPPING JEWELRY

I had so much fun in Katy Atchinson’s wire wrapping jewelry class at WorkshopSF, that I signed up for her advanced class. Which was an AMAZING idea! Katy’s classes are always fun and I learned a ton in a few short hours.

Rings

First up, we made a pair of quick rings using two different types of wire. One was in the shape of an infinity sign, which was extremely delicate and I had a bit of trouble working the teeny, tiny wire into teeny, tiny shapes. But, the second was a cool spiral-y ring using a larger, super flexible steel wire that I really liked working with. It’s soft and luxe to wear too.

Cage Pendant

Next up was a wire-wrapped cage pendant. It was nice to work with something a bit more complex than in the last class and I was surprised at how tricky it was to keep the gem inside the cage while wrapping. Made me wish I had a third hand 😉

Agate Pendant

I love agate slices. They are so BEAUTIFUL and fun. For this one, we made little loops in the wire before wrapping and mine ended up being a bit too small for the agate slice I’d selected. But, one thing I love about wire wrapping is that you can kind of fake it until you make it and hack things together to create something that I think still looks quite lovely.

Extra Credit: Crystal Wrapping

At the end of class, I somehow found a second wind and wrapped a clear crystal with gold wire to create a pendant in about 5 minutes. I’m SUPER happy with the results.
