My son is obsessed with the Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack, from the rousing rumpus to the indie-pop love songs. Popping that album on is a sure-fire way to get him calmed down and dancing.

He’s still a little young to have the patience for the book itself (he’s at Olivia level now, working his way up to Click!Clack!Moo!), but I have a feeling he’s going to love it one day as well. So when I found a fabulous baby Max costume online, combined  with his shocking blonde hair and rumpus-y, tornado-like demeanor – I knew lil’ Max was a perfect fit for this year’s Halloween costume.

I hadn’t really thought much about what my husband and I would be until I stumbled on this beautiful DIY instructions for adult-sized monster costumes, I wanted to give it a go.

One thing Sara, from Tell, Love & Party, mentioned in her instructions was that she wished she had more of a tutorial for the monster hat/head. So I purchased a pattern from JoAnns when I bought all of the fabric and then remembered that I suck at patterns (I’m more of a free-range sewer). Some quick googling led me to Creativebug, where there was a helpful tutorial for the very pattern I had purchased (Simplicity Pattern 1514), taught by an employee of Simplicity.

The class was really well put together and easy to follow. I think the hood turned out really well and I’m considering making another hat for the baby with the remainder fabric.

Also, I was excited to try out Creativebug – it was the first class I took there (full disclosure, my friend Christina used to work there) and I was very happy with it. It’s an affordable online craft school option, for only$4.95 a month you get access to 100s of crafty classes and tutorials – from sewing to painting. There are a few hand lettering classes I’d like to try next.
