ART CLASS DAY 6: AGATE & GEODE JEWELRY

[vc_row full_width=”” parallax=”” parallax_image=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]My sixth day of art class was at WorkshopSF, one of my favorite crafty places in San Francisco.

Craft Hacking 101 Agate & Geode Jewelry was taught by the creative powerhouse Katy Atchison and was comfortably intimate (only two other students + Katy). We selected a bunch of cool crystals, polished gemstones and raw geodes to make a ton of jewlery in a few hours. Plus, because I bought a pack of 6 classes, I also got a free beer (score!).

We learned a bit about the pedigree of a few of the stones, which had been given to Katy by jewelry maker Steve Howard. His stones were breathtakingly unique and were mined from the “Prudent Man Agate” mine which is in the Challis Volcanics region of central Idaho. I also learned that gold gilding is slightly addictive, Katy confessed that one time she had a student that gilded everything in her purse during a class.

Anyway, I created some cool stuff in this class:

  • Amethyst ring – ok, so really I just glued a stone onto a pre-made ring, but still cool!
  • 3 rough-cut pendants – an amethyst, geode and a crazy cool agate slice, created using wire wrapping and gold gilding techniques
  • “Angel Dust” bottle pendant – wire wrapped and filled with little geode crystals.

I highly recommend Katy’s Craft Hacking classes, they’re a great way to learn a new craft, practice it with some feedback from a craft pro, and create something awesome in a few hours.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”” parallax=”” parallax_image=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_images_carousel images=”556,552,557,558,559,560″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self” mode=”horizontal” speed=”5000″ slides_per_view=”1″ autoplay=”” hide_pagination_control=”” hide_prev_next_buttons=”” partial_view=”yes” wrap=”” title=”Jewelry I Made!” img_size=”650×650″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
